Details

The Known Gala is a Christ-centered, inclusive prom experience for individuals with special needs, inspired by Psalm 139 and the truth that every person is fearfully and wonderfully made. Our volunteers play a vital role in creating a night where every guest feels safe, celebrated, and fully known.

No prior experience is required to volunteer. We will provide training, guidance, and practical tools before the event to ensure you feel confident, supported, and equipped in your role. You are never expected to handle a situation alone. A dedicated Behavior Support Team will be on-site throughout the evening to assist in any situation you do not feel comfortable stepping into.
Chick-fil-A will be provided for dinner if registered by April 26th,

Volunteer Trainings

All volunteers are required to attend one training session before the event:

  • Wednesday, April 22: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 2: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This event serves guests ages 15 and older. To volunteer at the Known Gala, you must be at least 10 years old. Volunteers help ensure the evening runs smoothly, joyfully, and with dignity for all.

Some volunteer roles are time-specific. Once a role is completed, volunteers may be asked to transition to another area to continue supporting the event where help is most needed. For example, members of the Glam Team may move on to support the dance floor, sensory room, food service, or karaoke, and the Flowers Team may transition to guest support or other activity areas. This flexibility helps ensure every space is fully staffed and supported throughout the night.

Below is a brief description of each volunteer role to help you choose where you feel best suited to serve.

Buddy Team 15 and older

Walk alongside a guest throughout the night, offering friendship, encouragement, and support. Buddies help guests participate in activities, navigate the space, and feel comfortable and celebrated.

Medical Team

Licensed medical professionals who are available throughout the event to assist with medication needs, minor medical concerns, or emergencies, ensuring a safe environment for all guests.

Security Team

Helps maintain a calm, safe, and secure environment. This team monitors entrances, assists with crowd flow, and supports emergency procedures if needed.

Check-In Team

The first friendly faces guests see. This team welcomes guests and volunteers, assists with registration, distributes lanyards, and helps set the tone for a joyful evening.

Food Team

Assists with serving and distributing the Chick-fil-A dinner, monitoring food areas, and helping guests as needed while maintaining cleanliness and organization.

Flowers Team

Distributes flowers to guests, helping each person feel honored and special. Once flower distribution is complete, volunteers may transition to other support areas as needed.

Sensory Room Team

Supports guests who may need a quiet, calming space during the event. Volunteers help maintain a peaceful environment and offer gentle support as guests regulate and rest.

Karaoke Team

Manages the karaoke area by helping guests sign up, use microphones, and cheer them on as they share their talents in a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

Red Carpet Team

Creates an exciting and affirming entrance experience by welcoming guests, cheering them on, and helping them feel like stars as they arrive.

Photo Team

Assists guests with professional photos, helping them pose, smile, and capture meaningful memories from the night.

Glam Team

Helps guests feel confident and celebrated through hair, makeup, nails, or styling support, always honoring comfort levels and personal preferences. Once glam services are complete, volunteers may transition to support other areas of the event.

Carriage Ride

Manage the ride line, assist guests safely on and off the carriage, ensure accessibility needs are met, and maintain a calm, organized, and joyful experience while monitoring safety.

Floater

Flexible volunteers who assist wherever help is needed throughout the night, supporting directors and stepping in to ensure every area runs smoothly.

"I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." — Psalm 139:14
